Weather Policy

Nobody likes a stormy day with the pool season here!

Lexington Swim Club Storm Policy:

RAIN: The pool will remain open during rain UNLESS it is raining too hard for the guards to see to the bottom of the pool. Closing the pool during rain, will be at the guards discretion. The pool will reopen as soon as the guards feel they can see to the bottom of the pool. There is no set time for taking a break due to heavy rains.

COLD WEATHER: In the event of unseasonably cool weather, the board will decide about opening and/or closing early. Since weather can change quickly, closing due to cool temperatures have different considerations than if it is storming.

THUNDER/LIGHTENING: The event of a thunder and lightening the pool will close for 30 min breaks EACH TIME thunder is heard by the lead guard or board member. The timer will restart with each thunder that is heard.

If the break will not end within 1 hour of the afternoon shift change (4pm), the pool will close until the next shift. Example: Thunder is heard at 2:45pm and again at 3:00pm – the break would not end until 3:30pm, so the pool will automatically close until 4pm.

In the event the 30 mins breaks will not end 1.5 hours before closing, the pool will close for the evening. Weekday example: Thunder is heard at 6:00pm – break ends at 6:30pm. Thunder is heard again at 6:20pm, extending the break to 6:50pm so we would close for the day and reopen the next business day. Times will vary on nights we are open later.

The board does reserve the right to make a last minute decision based on size and strength of storm in the area. We have to take into account the members safety, guards safety and time allowed to get the pool cleaned/closed down safely. Umbrellas, trash cans and miscellaneous items all have to be removed quickly during summer storms.

PARTIES DURING POTENTIAL WEATHER:

If you have a semi or private party scheduled and there is a high chance (60% or higher) of storms, we can reschedule your party for another available day. We ask that you give us at least 12 hour notice so we can plan staff accordingly. Please be aware that if you choose to still have your party and we have to close due to storms, there will not be a refund.
